Punjabi Folk Festival being celebrated in Sutton Coldfield

IF you’re looking to dance on Bhangra music and enjoy North Indian Punjabi food & sweets, look no further!

Sikhs of Sutton Coldfield are celebrating their most important festival – Vaisakhi on the 13th of April at 5:30 pm at the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. As part of the Vaisakhi Family celebrations they will have the Punjabi Folk Festival where there will be various performances of the Dhol drums, Bhangra & Gidda dances and much more. The event is open to everyone and tickets will include all Food & Entertainment. The sale of tickets will open in February 2019.

Vaisakhi has been celebrated by performing Bhangra & Gidda dance on Dhol drum music and having a feast to celebrate the harvest. The 10th and the last living Guru of the Sikhs – Guru Gobind Singh enhanced the significance of the day in 1699 by handing over the spiritual authority of Sikhism to a body of his followers the Khalsa.

In India, Vaisakhi is celebrated as major fairs across the state of Punjab. As Sutton Coldfield has a large population of Sikhs, the organisers felt the need to celebrate it where everyone can join in the celebrations and have fun!

When there, don’t forget to try the Punjabi sweets!
