‘Patience’ by Gilbert & Sullivan 1-5 November 2016

Erdington Operatic Society proudly present Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘Patience’

“Patience” is a clever and amusing satire on “the latest craze” (in this case ,the aesthetic movement of the late 19th Century, led by the likes of Oscar Wilde).

It is probably the most under-rated of all the G and S operas, which, arguably has the best line-up of characters in all of their shows. It contains some of Sullivan’s most popular music, ranging from idyllic charm to brash military patriotism.

This show has the distinction of being the first in the world to be lit by electricity at the then newly- built Savoy Theatre on The Strand in London.
