Oliver! 9-13 May 2017

“Oliver!” is based on the novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens, and follows young Oliver’s journey from the workhouse, through “employment” in Fagin’s gang of thieves to eventual security with new-found members of his own family.

Lionel Bart’s thrilling songs have created a true masterpiece of musical theatre, encompassing sweet ballads, comic songs and show-stopping production numbers, including “As Long As He Needs Me”, “Food, Glorious Food”, “Consider Yourself”, “You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two”, “I’d Do Anything” and many many more.

Soon after it opened in the West End on 30 June 1960 it was clear that “Oliver!” was a resounding success, winning rave reviews and ecstatic audiences. Eventually the show achieved 2,618 performances. At the time one of the longest-running shows in the West End. With its frequent professional revivals and amateur productions, “Oliver!” continues to be one of the most popular and love musicals.

Tudor Musical Comedy Society formed in 1961 by Roy Gaunt, Betty Gaunt an Doreen Marlow. In 1961 Tudor performed their first production; “No No Nannette” and have been entertaining Sutton Coldfield audiences with musical after musical ever since. TudorMCS is an award-winning amateur dramatics society filled with immense talent, consisting of a wide range of ages, some members who have been with us from our first rehearsal!

Tudor was formed by a family and is continued by next generations of that family; Son of Roy and Betty Gaunt and now Grand-daughter of Roy and Betty. Through this tie Tudor has a very strong sense of family running through its core with any families being part of the society.

Our mission is to provide a first class performance every time the company steps on stage. Through hard work, determination and a lot of laughs we believe that we achieve this and more.

There are many opportunities for young and not so young, to get involved. It doesn’t matter whether you have been part of amateur theatre for years or if this is something new that you would like to explore, we look forward to welcoming you!
